[Following is a volunteer review of "Midwinter Turns to Spring" by Maria Veloso.]
The author Maria Veloso in her phenomenal novel Midwinter Turns to Spring portrays a Flamenco guitarist's hardships in his childhood, betrayal in his early life, finding his true love, sacrificing his love in his late twenties, and again falling in love with the same person twice. Her characters go through thunder and sunshine, rights and wrongs, hell and heaven, hopelessness and hopefulness, and ups and downs. The author is of great intelligence when it comes to various fields and professions, different periods, and a series of emotions. This romantic novel beats down even William Shakespeare's famous Romeo Juliet, in my eyes. Maria Veloso had her own style of delineating the characters of her novel and that, eventually, brought justice to her characters.
I admire the main character of this novel who shows great devotion, affection, fondness, and adoration towards the person he loves and cares about. Nothing felt imaginary. The novel was mind-blowing and it kept me guessing. Yes, there were cliffhangers! But the anticipation didn't let me take a nap! The scenes and plots were well written and it made the novel reach greater heights. This novel made me laugh at times and, definitely, made me cry. It connects with our hearts and soul. Once love finds its way to our hearts, it never leaves.
My favorite part of the novel is Aunt Sabine's phone call. The words used in the passage made my heart swell and throb for her. Love is not all about romance, heart-throbbing, face flushing, and full of roses but it is also about the painful moments and sacrifices made. This novel cherishes the bonding and the priceless love between parents and children whether it be adopted or own. The author brought forward the beauty of the novel eventually which was unique and peculiar from other novels.
I felt that the disastrous event could have been well written. It would have been even more interesting if the novel contained more humor. Nonetheless, the novel was spectacular.
I would rate the book 4 out of 4 stars because this book really deserves a good hand of applause. Every minute detail was written in a well-defined manner. Though it is romance fiction, it was outstanding due to its authenticity and the way the emotions were portrayed. It is skillfully and exceptionally written. Simply, remarkable!
I would recommend the novel for older readers and fans of romantic fiction and sentimental fiction because I suggest people who love romance and passion to read this book.
