" A pebble dropped in a pool. Ripples spreading outward."

When Wayne is suspected of burglary at Mr. Oldfield, Philip, his best friend, and a journalist for a local rag take the matter into his own hands. But what happens when you add an attempted murder into the picture? Wayne knows more than he lets on. Philip is sure of that. Still, to protect his friend, he must solve the mystery even with his life at stake. He is determined; neither Wayne nor himself would end up like their childhood best friend- Stevie.

Waves Break(On Unknown Shores) by Barry Litherland is a nail-biting crime thriller that does not let you keep the book down. The author succeeded in maintaining the thrill throughout the story. The narratives were lucid. I read this book in almost one sitting.

It is no doubt that Mr. Litherland is an educator. The novel, albeit a whodunit, succeeds in educating the reader about several aspects of life. The story makes one think about the ugly side of journalism; The risk the profession holds. It also makes one think; what one read must not be the whole truth or the truth at all.

My favorite aspect of the book is the friendship between nine-year-old Philip, Wayne, and Stevie. "We're children and it's in our nature to forget what we don't want to hear." A childhood friendship, unlike an adult's, is full of innocence and lacks greed. Neither Philip nor Stevie cared about Wayne's background, how much money his family has or what he has to offer. What they worried about was what they would play today. The characters were well developed and brought out a series of emotions from their readers. The suspense is present throughout the story.

I could not, however, make an adequate connection between the past and the ongoing events. It felt as if the author is narrating two different stories rather than one. It was the only blemish of the novel. The story was well-paced, along with all the necessary details included. The narratives were straightforward and managed to keep the tension without too much drama. The errors were few and negligible. Hence, I rate Waves Break(On Unknown Shores) a 4 out of 4 stars.

I would recommend this novel to those who enjoy whodunits. It is a suitable read for those who are looking for a thrilling crime novel with less drama. Readers under the age of 18 can also enjoy this book as it does not has either too much vulgarity or sexual content.

To extrapolate, Waves Break(On Unknown Shores) is a must-read for avid readers of crime novels regardless of age.
