Review of Rulers of the Galaxy
Tayma Tameem’s Rulers of the Galaxy, is a sci-fi fantasy novel set in an intergalactic world of rival empires of planets, space travel and outlaws. After centuries of being dominated by the Elemental race, the Imperial race is ready to strike back, and they choose to do so at the former’s most unexpected moments. A day that is supposed to bring joy to the Elementals casts a gloomy shadow of war and extermination of the entire race.
The aftermath of the initial invasion gives rise to new identities that spring up to take pivotal roles in the development of our fictional world. An Elven woman wakes up on the battlefield with no recollection of any memories prior to her awakening. The only thing she becomes certain of is the need to protect a baby she saved from execution by a few invading soldiers. She takes it upon herself to discover who the parents of the baby are as well as her past.
Whether by luck or chance, she becomes acquainted with Bosco, who becomes somewhat of a sidekick. Bosco is a raider and spacecraft pilot who in a “too good to be true” fashion, is willing to go the extra mile in protecting her and the baby. But how will this journey to discover her past pan out when she and the baby are the subjects of an interplanetary search by the forces of a vengeful race led by a cunning, cold and calculating High-Minister?
I would give Rulers of the Galaxy by Tayma Tameem a rating of 4 out of 4 stars. The author’s writing (mainly done in the third person perspective) was captivating and I particularly enjoyed her use of foreshadowing in showing instead of telling the reader about major plot twists. I also liked how certain oddities in the fictional world were addressed and not left as plot holes. For instance, the author provided a reason for why advanced races with intergalactic travel technology would prefer fighting with swords instead of guns or other weapons.
The book was well edited, with no grammatical errors that would hinder a smooth reading. I did not find any particular feature I disliked about Rulers of the Galaxy. In fact, the author ended on such a good note that I sincerely do look forward to reading the sequel to this novel. I would recommend this book to readers who are interested in the science fiction and fantasy genres as well as anyone who is interested in casually reading a captivating story.
