Review of The Ultimate Love
THE ULTIMATE LOVE is an exceptional and inspiring nonfiction book written by Sherine Anniruth who lost her older son, Nadeem Rajah in the battle against cancer. She pours her emotions into writing and shares her experience on how she has managed to cope with the insurmountable loss over years. She also shares some invaluable advice on how best readers can understand and deal with their own grief in various ways. THE ULTIMATE LOVE will make you get emotional or even cry and at the same time remind you to value every second you spend with your loved ones and treasure the memories of those who passed away.
“I am a bereaved parent who wishes there was a term like orphan or widow to describe my status..." The above statement touched me deeply and made me realize that there is actually no term used to describe a bereaved parent. I remember shedding tears profusely when I got to the point where she wrote, “I was there when Nadeem took his first and last breathe”. Every parents wish is to see their children grow and become matured adults. Therefore, losing them tragically at an early stage in life is so disheartening and devastating. People usually say, “You have to experience a thing yourself before you can understand it”. It may not be applicable to all situations, but it definitely applies to the tragic experience of losing a child. The experienced would say “The feeling is like having a broken rib which no one sees but hurts every time you breathe”. I am not a mother, so I can only imagine what the feeling is like but cannot actually feel the agony behind the grief. I sincerely sympathize with Sherine and other bereaved parents out there, and I pray for healings of their broken heart.
I feel great respect for the author for sharing her emotional feelings and grief process. And I deeply concur with her that grief makes us realize that every time spent with our loved ones should be valued and every memories shared should be treasured.
The manner of writing were deeply personal and greatly relatable, the words were simple and without complexity. I enjoyed every of the quotes and figurative expressions used in the book. How she described grief as “…a tidal wave that sweeps you away, smashes you with unimaginable energy, carries you into the night, drops you on hard surfaces to be tossed out into an unknown ocean, battered, reshaped” in the introduction, was indeed very remarkable.
The book was perfectly written and is a powerful tool for anyone who has lost someone they love. My love for this book is to the peak with zero dislike because I learnt quite a lot from it. The editor did a really good job in editing the book because I could barely spot any error while reading and I give the book 4 out of 4 stars because it was exceptionally interesting and heartwarming.
For those who are bereaved or broken hearted and seeks comfort or motivation, THE ULTIMATE LOVE is for you.
