Review of The United States of Opioids
The United States of Opioids. A prescription for liberating a nation in pain; written by Harry Nelson , founder of Nelson Hardiman, provides a unique insight to the opioid crisis within the United states. The author includes numerous chapters which provide the reader with a basic but greater understanding of this devastating crisis. Chapters include a history of opioids, the law system based around healthcare and appropriate treatment options, to name a few. Harry Nelson shares his unique experiences and knowledge as one of the nation’s leading healthcare attorneys, to highlight the measures in which patients, healthcare professionals and pharmacy companies must overcome to attempt to tackle this crisis.
This book has an enjoyable fluidity to the chapters in which are accompanied by various quotes and statistics which only add weight and realism to the extent of this crisis. The United States of Opioids. A prescription for liberating a nation in pain is a powerful and meaningful book with personal stories of the victims who have been affected by this crisis.
The topic of the book is a vast subject, and it is unfortunate that this book seems to one of first to really challenge everyone’s perception on the opioid crisis whilst offering some potential thoughts for the solution. Harry Nelson is clearly very passionate about the subject which has been noted at the end of the book for his contributions to various charities and project to provide relief for victims, as well as personally giving solutions and opportunities needed.
For those who do not have an open mind to the crisis, the individuals who have suffered with addictions and those who have sadly lost their lives, I wouldn’t recommend. This book does not serve those who want to create a shameful and blaming attitude, this should be taken as a spark to aid and better the problematic situation. It shows how overall there isn’t a perfect solution with those individuals often in situations where doctors, the pharmacological companies and insurance companies are trapped within a problematic cycle.
I would like to give this book 4 out of 4 stars . This book is brilliant. Truly thought provoking. I would recommend this book to those within the healthcare service and those not equally, as well as those individuals who have a law background.
The only negative comment I have is that the use of the recaps at the end of each chapter do have the potential for those to skim through the book. However, these recaps do make for a reference and can be used as a talking point.
