Review of Shadow's Adventure Home

[Following is a volunteer review of "Shadow's Adventure Home" by Kathy Kovar.]
Shadow's Adventure Home by Kathy Kovar is an illustrated book that tells the true story of the author's cat, Shadow, who once went missing for a couple of years after a move. On Amazon, this book is listed as recommended for children ages 3-8 years old. It is a short and cute illustrated story told from the perspective of a cat.
In this short book, a cat named Shadow moves with his family into a bigger house with a lot of windows from where he can sit and watch the birds outside. However, one day the door is left open so when a bird hops across the porch, Shadow chases after the bird until he is very lost. The rest of the book is Shadow's journey to finding his way back home to his people and his windows.
My favorite part of this book was the authenticity of Shadow. I have owned cats for a majority of my life. Some of them have lived only indoors and some have been able to spend some time outdoors. Shadow reminds me of one of the cats we owned while I was in college, they even look the same! He would go outside and go for an adventure, chasing birds and butterflies. Fortunately, our cat never got lost for as long as Shadow, but I loved how real it was that Shadow would be having fun and suddenly not know where he was. There was nothing that I didn't like about this book.
This book was exceptionally well-edited as I didn't spot any errors while reading. The images that went with the words were well done and added to the story. I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a short little story about one cute cat's adventure back home. It is written for young children, but even as an adult I enjoyed the read.
I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. There was no reason to take any stars off of the book because it was so well done. I am so glad to have read this book and enjoyed the story of Shadow and I would be happy to read another book by this author because of the wonderful experience of Shadow's Adventure Home.
