Dr. Gregory McGregor, a geotechnical engineer based in St. Paul, got a call from his friend Charley Farnsworth, a major stockholder and chief engineer in Tinman, who told him he had a job for him and requested he visit him in Los Angeles. Charley informed him of a big game he was in that involves nine-digit numbers. Gregory, otherwise known as Greg, survives a bombing incident in his home on the day he was meant to leave for LA, which claimed the life of his dog, Darwin, instead. Their meeting was rescheduled to hold in Denver due to the incident, where Charley was murdered by unidentified men, as Greg stood helplessly a block away from him. Gregory had no idea why Charley called him, why he was murdered, or what the nine-digit number Charley mentioned was.

Filled with anger for the death of his friends, Charles and Darwin, and the fear for his safety, Greg, alongside Charley's Aspen condo housekeeper and friend, Corky Gonzales, embarks on a dangerous adventure to uncover the mysteries behind Charley's death and to solve the nine-digit secret. Will these two civilians be able to solve these mysteries? Who was responsible for Charley's murder? And what role did Tinman, an international heavy equipment construction company, play in all these? Find out these and more in this exciting thriller.

Tinman by Karen Black is an amazing, suspense-filled book, with a great storyline. It was surprising to learn that the whole action present in this book occurred only in two weeks.

I was impressed by the character development, plot, and how the mysteries in this book were solved by the various protagonists. I loved the character of Gregory. Greg, despite having several options to walk away and forget about Charley's death, considering the dangers he may be facing, did not walk away, but he decided to unravel the mystery behind the murder to ensure justice was served. Did he succeed? You may like to read this book to learn about it.

Being someone who knows little about rivers and the dangers which may be lurking in various rivers, I appreciated how the author, through Jake, a pilot, explained the various ways all whitewater rapids are graded and what one should expect from different rivers.

On the downside, I felt that Corky revealing a lot of information about her personal life and family to Greg in this book was unnecessary. This is because Greg revealed less about his personal life to her, despite her asking repeatedly. To me, that information was unnecessary for this book, as it can do without them. However, I enjoyed every other part of this book.

Tinman was edited professionally, with only a few errors. Therefore, I have no reason to deduct a star. Consequently, I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. Readers who enjoy reading crime thrillers, mysteries, and books on action adventures will find this book entertaining, and I recommend it to them.

What is the mystery behind the nine-digit numbers? And why was Charley killed because of this? I would love to know how Tinman company is involved in all this. Thanks for the great review.
