Review of The MISOGI Method

[Following is a volunteer review of "The MISOGI Method" by Jody B. Miller.]
The MISOGI Method is a self-help book written by the author, Jody B. Miller. The book gets its name from a traditional Japanese Shinto ritual. It involves sitting naked under a cold waterfall in the season of winter. This method helps to purify the soul, to eliminate impurities, and to be reborn. However, this book does not explain that method. Instead, the author adds a few rules to it and develops it in a modern way. This book describes this method in five parts.
So what is this new, modern MISOGI? A challenge that pushes you out of your comfort zone and makes you say, "I don't know if I can do this." It is a challenge that you take on yourself. The complete art of doing this ritual is illustrated in the five chapters of the book. It describes what a MISOGI is. What are its benefits? How to find your own method? How to properly execute this method? And finally, how to make it last? The remaining half of the book contains interviews of a few successful people from different aspects of life. They talk about their achievements and how this method helped them in accomplishing their goal.
I loved the way the author describes her method. It discusses an unusual approach about how each individual can shatter their limits and become a better version of themselves. She tells the readers to focus on effort rather than results. A MISOGI is something that has a fifty-fifty chance of success. So, putting the most effort is what matters. By doing this, you will feel accomplished even if you did not complete your original goal. Also, I liked the takeaway and reflection sections of the chapters. The takeaway section contains all the ideas contained in the chapter in bullet points. The reflection section involves a blank area where the author encourages us to write down the thoughts which are currently going on after going through the chapter.
I was a little let down by the interviews. I don't want to say they were bad. They were fine. It was nice to read all those people talk about their success. What I wanted was to know about their personal MISOGI methods. Each of them just vaguely stated that they use this method. None of them clearly described what is, how they found or how they perform their method. That is what I wanted to know from them. Also, the editing of this book is not flawless. I came across plenty of errors. For these reasons, I would rate it 3 out of 4 stars.
All in all, The MISOGI Method is an admirable self-help book. The writing style is simple and easy to read. The technique described in this book can be used by anyone who wants to become a better version of themselves. If you are looking for ways to develop yourself, this book should be your next read.
