Deceitful Survival is a fiction book written by LC Lee. The starting actions take place in Brittany in the early 19th century. The story of the book starts tragically, we get introduced to the main character Elizabeth, and on the first few pages of the book, we discover that she had lost her parents in the most horrific of ways. She was left under the guard of her brothers which made her move to her father’s sister Aunt Simone. Aunt Simone was a vicious tyrant that never felt sorry for Beth and forced her to work hellishly and live in horrible conditions. After escaping that hell leaving the last shelter she had, she finds her friend Emma that convinces her to become a nun in the Ursuline Convent in Rouen. Then after her name was changed to Andrée La Roux she had been assigned to Haiti where she meets father René. This is where she starts to face the most difficulties and the most interesting part of the book starts.

I think Beth must have a strong personality to be able to leave her aunt's house. The whole book in its soul has a lot of parallels with modern reality. It touches a lot of important hot topics such as the rights of women, the pressure from the part of the society, the inner strengths of people and their deep emotional connections and what can come of it, the early loss of the parents and the childhood without any parental support, the psychological effects of an early loss of the parents and what impact it can have on the person and on its future, the faith and the religious beliefs that people of this historical period and especially Beth had to deal with.

The book is a good historical novel. It will be appreciated by the people who are interested in this historical period. I think the book would fit the best to those people who doubt the old biases that were introduced and attached to them, it may be religion, traditions, certain ways of attitude. I think this book would also be a good fit for the people whose beliefs weren’t yet been reconsidered.

The book is well introducing its characters, but in some situations it seemed to me their actions were a little irrational psychologically, but considering that this book is fiction these little things are very subjective.

The book is very well edited. I didn’t find any grammar misspellings. Overall I rate this book 4 out of 4. This book is worth reading due to its story and a few twists that keep you reading the book. Due to its religious nature the book might seem not appropriate for everyone, but religion here is viewed more from a philosophical perspective rather than from a traditional one, so I think there will be no problems for anyone reading it. The book is worth your time.
