Creating Literary Stories: A Fiction Writer's Guide by William H. Coles is a fiction book and a writer's guide. The book is divided into two parts, or books, as the author refers to them. The first book has twelve chapters, and the second book has five chapters. The entire book discusses how to create literary stories. The author emphasizes the things one should do and the things not to do when creating literary stories. He goes ahead to show how characters are imagined and then created but are never discovered and described.
The book continues to show the proper way of writing dialogue, how to use the first-, second-and third-person point of view in literary stories, and how to include emotions that are not sentimental but are logical, to mention a few. The overall emphasis of the book is creating literary stories that are great, significant, and meaningful to the reader. The problem may arise when an author wants to make a good literary story but fails to characterize it well.
I enjoyed reading this book. What I liked about the book are the summaries the author made at the end of each chapter. He highlighted all the key points that one should focus on when creating literary stories. Mr. William H. Coles has a genuine interest in changing how literary stories are written or made positively. The examples of dos and that he gives are fun, accurate, and correct. Reading a book with bad grammar or wrong spelling can make reading hard to follow along. I like how the author insists on putting some humor when creating literary stories. These will help the reader to connect with the character and to create images in mind.
There was nothing I disliked about the book. The style of writing the author used is easy to understand. The definition used on the keywords like fiction, literary fiction, and the story makes the reader differentiate them and understand better. I found no profanity in the book. I, however, found a couple of minor errors, but that did not prevent me from enjoying the book.
After considering all aspects, I am gladly giving this book a four out of four-star rating. It is educative and a perfect guide for creating literary stories. I recommend this book to anyone creating literary stories or is interested in knowing how to write literary stories. It is also a good book for those people who enjoy reading books for general knowledge.
