Review of My Living Will
No one commits suicide because they want to die. Then why do they do it? Because they want to stop the pain. If whenever you mention suicide or mental health issues, people automatically disappear. They barely think about the reasons for committing it. They presume this will never happen to them or their families. My Living Will is one such memoir by a father for his beloved son who committed suicide.
John Trautwein has always been a positive motivational guy and has an optimistic approach toward life. He always dreamt of leading a loving, happy family. But one night, his whole life shattered when his oldest son, Will Trautwein, hanged himself and committed suicide. There is no enormous pain for a parent than losing his child. Fortunately, the author had his family, friends, his teammates who carried him through this pit of hell. With their help, he founded a new dream, a new purpose, and a new hope. He founded the Will to Live Foundation in honor of his son to raise teen suicide awareness, education, and prevention. He determined what happened to his son should not happen to any other kid or parent.
My Living Will by John Trautwein is a thought-provoking book, as the author shared the leading causes of suicide. He explained what signs to look for, as well as how to help prevent suicidal behavior. Through this book, the author wants to encourage the kids to speak with kids. He advocates for parents to improve communication and approach this issue seriously and honestly.
I loved the author’s detailed and friendly writing style. The author has recited many of his memories with his son. He also recounts all the positive affirmations that inspired him to cope with the pain. The messages, poems, or quotes he presented before each part were so overwhelming that they got engraved in my mind. However, the thing I loved the most in the entire book was the pictures of the author’s family and his son. Those pictures completely broke my heart into pieces.
There is nothing I disliked in the book. I heartily award this book a rating of four out of four stars. It is exceptionally well-edited, as I could not spot any errors. I recommend this book to all teenagers and parents looking for motivation and awareness on suicide. However, people sensitive to distressing topics like suicide should proceed with caution.

This book is truly encouraging and motivating. Thank you for your comment.Brandy_Nyongesa wrote: ↑22 Aug 2021, 02:56 Suicide cases have sky rocketed in the current society. Sadly, the author lost his son to suicide. It is encouraging how he found hope and started educational programs to end suicidal behaviours. Great review.

I agree with you. Thank you for your comment.Priya_Singh wrote: ↑22 Aug 2021, 16:23 Doesn't matter how high the cases of suicide are rising these days, people refuse to wake up into this direction. It's saddening and overwhelming. However, it is good to see people taking stand slowly and steadily. Thank you for the wonderful review![]()

I certainly agree with you. Thank you for your comment.Clare Jose wrote: ↑23 Aug 2021, 08:44 I feel that the worst thing about suicide is that it could have been prevented. Most of the time, an open conversation or some support could have been all that was needed to prevent it. I'm glad that the author was willing to do whatever he could to spread awareness about the issue.
Thank you for your review.
