[Following is a volunteer review of "Living Forward After Loss" by Kathleen Ho.]
Have you ever encountered an experience where you lost your loved one whom you considered a precious jewel of your life? Have you stumbled in the pathway of your life where you felt that giving up is the only option you can see ahead? Have you ever experienced emptiness making you unable to cope with the tragedy while you lost your loved one?
Living Forward After Loss: Rebuilding Your Life After Losing Your Life Partner written by Kathleen Ho is a personal book highlighting her tragic life experiences of losing her beloved soul mate. She talks about her journey from pain to happiness. She explains how life knocked her off her feet and how she reversed the process of pain to appear indestructible. Living with your partner for many years and watching that person slipping away from your life within few months is what the author experienced. The author also provides approaches for the reader about how to cope with a similar situation before getting swallowed by the darkness. The book takes the readers on a journey of healing their inner wounds.
The best thing about this book is that the author communicated her personal life experiences beautifully. Besides, she recommended practical strategies accordingly to guide the readers on a positive path. At the beginning of the book, she expressed gratitude towards the people who contributed to her life before and after the death of her loved one, which was heart-warming to me. Furthermore, the foremost aspect of this book is that the vocabulary is easy to understand, and the readers can easily relate to the content. While reading the book, I felt that at times the author was repeating the same thing. Due to this, I felt bored reading a few of the content. Lastly, I wish the author would have included more strategies in each chapter, and the book should have been lengthier.
I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars since the author has edited the book perfectly and lacks profanity. The way she talked about her tragic experiences and the strategies with which she coped up was touchy, and it kept my interest intact till the end. Also, adding practical strategies for the readers was a creative and wise approach opted by the author. I didn’t rate it 3 stars because the vocabulary of the content was easy to understand. However, this book doesn’t deserve 3 stars because a person needs emotional strength to relive the painful moments, and that’s what she did. The author did a remarkable job in writing this book.
I would recommend this book especially to the readers who lost someone close to them and finds it hard to discover happiness again. Also, it is commended to all the readers belonging to any culture and religion.
