[Following is a volunteer review of "Rise of the Savior: Acolyte of Truth" by Antoine Bonner.]
Rise of the savior: Acolyte of truth written by Antoine Bonner had not only an eye-catching title but also quite an interesting concept. It would clearly grip anyone’s attention, specifically for readers who adore the reality of interdimensional fantasy and dystopian thriller. It is filled with the concept of deities and superpower, a pure battle between the raging acolytes of light and the acolytes of darkness, often picked by the inherent symbolism of the character of a human’s heart and mindset, feeding either into the strong sense of moral power or feeding off of the thirst of evil, manipulation and destruction. Eighteen year old Amanda who had no desire to save the world or be a hero in any sense, wakes up with supernaturally gifted powers after a freak car accident and slowly as secrets and hidden dark truths shine itself in the light, she slowly comes to understand her otherwise enigmatic younger sister, teaming up together to save the world, though rather unwillingly initially, the bond strengthens between the two sisters as they go off to fight for good against the rising evil hordes of acolytes.
However, this book was fast-paced and often had a multitude of events happening analogous to the time frame, giving a very strong feel of the concept of interdimensional space frame of the world of the subconscious mind as well as the physical reality plane. The writing style did show a good respect to its original concept and specifically gave a very strong anime story plot line vibe which would be truly enjoyable even if the book was updated to an online virtual gaming stream, the supernatural ability scores and multi-dimensional grasp of powers given to different acolytes through the aide of their deities would be a very successful concept for virtual gaming streams.
Despite its many advantages, I did feel like the execution of the plot line was drastically disappointing and though it is good for a beginner author and to achieve the possibility of transferring imagination into fine lines of a tell-tale story, the drastic change of events and the consecutive interchanging of a multitude of characters without letting the reader get used to the characters, forms a very abrupt and messy plotline which was very disheartening to me as I specifically adore books of this genre. The character development that I was so earnestly hoping for was never achieved by Bonner. Even for the main lead character, as known as the protagonist, had lacked a sense of self maturity and the mindset of an eighteen-year-old, Amanda was depicted as if someone who was an irritating ten-year-old child. Though it is understandable that her younger sister, Saira, aged six years, was to be represented with a more mature mindset by Bonner, it still was a quite an unrealistic setting point for both characters.
Though the cons outweigh the pros in the overall execution of this book, it does show a quite strong potential for future development, not only for the adaptations of the book to audiobooks, and movies but also for gaming and entertainment fields. The major flaw would only be the representation of the maturity of the mindsets of the characters and to develop the story lines with more twists and turns and reduce the pacing of the events taking place simultaneously, thus reducing the predictability and increasing the suspense and built up excitement whilst helping the readers to familiarize and focus on the main characters rather than being washed away with the lines of excited passionate writing due to which I would sadly rate it a 2 out of 4, with the book being fairly above average but was typically, otherwise well edited.
This book could be recommended to beginner readers who are venturing into the worlds of deities, avatars, supernatural powers and the linking connection of the mind, soul and material body interconnected within the superposition of multi-dimensional planes. And I will repeat that it is quite heartbreaking to see such a beautiful concept not passing the expected line of success due to bad execution of the overall plotline.
