Chasing a Flawed Sun by Daniel McGhee is an autobiography of the author narrating about his life as a drug addict. At the age of 15 he was so much into drugs and even became a drug lord along the streets of Baltimore and other more places as he has mentioned in the context. The author explains on the struggles he went through as an addict including leaving his parent’s home for the fear of being an influence to his juniors. He broadly explains how the life of an addict resembles. The fact that he used his own experience of being a drug addict and the consequences that came along with every decision he made to reach his audience made him bold enough and that was quite encouraging.

In our todays societies, drugs and drug addiction is not a topic one could be taught. For instance, there are no lessons in our educational institutions teaching about drugs and yet use of drugs is the current disease affecting our youths today. Daniel McGhee in his book Chasing a Flawed Sun addresses the effects of using drugs and I personally have gained a lot mostly on the effects of heroin.

Am not a drug addict but I have learned so much from this book about the effects of drugs and how it can make someone’s life miserable. The author explained in details from how he started using and selling drugs, getting expelled from school, being imprisoned, conducting robbery on innocent people and occasional violence they got into with his friends. From those experiences I did not find any fun in using drugs and I could not advice anybody to use any kind of drug.

The only thing I did not like about the book was the occasional violence the author engaged in as people were getting hurt, but it did not make me dislike the book. I liked the flaw of the book as there was no point it lost its momentum. During my reading I was so anxious as I wanted to know if the author managed to quit using drugs and I was not disappointed. It was professionally edited as I did not encounter any grammatical error. I would therefore rate it 4 out of 4 stars.

In recommendation, I would like to recommend addicted people struggling to quit using drugs to read this book as it will be of great help, also non addicts can also read it to help them gain more knowledge on the effects of drugs. I would not recommend individuals under the age of 18 to read this book because of the strong profane language used and also there is erotic content not forgetting a lot of violence as depicted in the book.

Talking about your struggles and all the things you did, good or bad, is not an easy thing and its great that the author wrote about it. Would help other drug addicts greatly. Thanks for the review!
