Benjamin Poe is a firefighter in a crumbling marriage with a son who has a dark streak. Joshua Olmsted is a quiet window who visits his secluded lakeside cabin every weekend. What secrets do these two men hold to be tormented by Crighton, Lucifer’s highest-ranking demon? He’s the deadliest of demons but ends up falling trap to a group of supernatural scientists. The next thing he knows, he’s face to face with an angel named Ariel. Soul Seeker by Kaylin McFarren takes these two on a cat and mouse chase while trying to fight the ultimate war of good vs evil and their forbidden love.

Hands down and without a doubt, Soul Seeker deserves 4 out of 4 stars. I’m going to tell you why because if anyone tries to say otherwise, they are 100% dead wrong. I literally could not put this book down and ended up reading the whole thing in a matter of two days. This was definitely professionally edited because I was able to enjoy the story without being distracted by typos or grammar errors. So how could I not give it a 4-star rating?

Each character, both major and minor, was described in vivid detail and given a unique personality so you believed them to be real people. Everywhere the characters went, from the bowels of Hell to a serene woodscape, the author nailed the description so you felt like you were there. Ms. McFarren successfully fulfilled her duty as an author by taking the reader not just to another world, but another dimension!

The only thing I didn’t understand was how Benjamin was referred to by his last name when every other character was addressed by their first. For example,”’Anyone here?’ Poe called.” and “Poe sighed.” Although I felt the excitement in the storyline dipped down towards the end, I kept reading. Even though this was the first novel in a soon-to-be series, the author successfully brought this story to a close without using an annoying cliffhanger.

Anyone who enjoys dark fantasy and romance with a little bit of a psychological thrill ride will enjoy reading this as much as I did. Please be aware there is profanity, borderline erotic sexual content, and violence throughout the entirety of the book. So besides the mature content previously mentioned, I believe this book would be better suited for adults since it deals with some heavier themes like life and death, angels and demons, etc. Or it could just as well suit young adults who want a little entertainment. Either way, this is a book I will be recommending again and again.
