[Following is a volunteer review of "Chameleons" by Onyx Gold.]

Blending in with the background is a trait that many animals use as a form of survival. While most would believe that a chameleon changes colors to hide from predators, it is also a predator. In Chameleons, Onyx Gold writes a twisted story of how a human predator was effectively capable of functioning alongside the public. Zia was a literary agent dealing with major anxiety. She preferred isolating herself, but her friend Jazz wanted to bring her out of her shell. After a chance encounter with Bryce in the elevator, Zia tries not to be noticed by the attorney again. Unfortunately, for Zia, she finds herself running into him and ultimately accepting to go on a date with him. Before the date, she has discovered a thriller story that she believes will be her chance to move up in her field. She contacts the author, Baxter, and soon finds herself caught in a dilemma of which man she wants to dedicate herself to. Who does she choose or, more importantly, is the choice made for her?

I liked the suspense built when I was reading the killer’s plot to eliminate women. I was delighted to discover that Bryce was transparent with his sincerity to treat Zia as a person with emotions and not perceive her as a sexual conquest. It was evident that Baxter regarded her in a different light completely. He had a need to be completely involved in every aspect of her life. Jazz was an excellent friend, appearing to be concerned about Zia’s mental and physical health. I also found this story’s editing to be exceptional, as I discovered no errors anywhere in the book.

Zia was, in my opinion, a woman with poor morals. Her choices to have a sexual affair with a client were very unprofessional. Beyond that, her comparison between Bryce and Baxter lacked logic. I also didn’t completely follow the confrontation between her and Bryce in the parking lot, then suddenly cohabiting in the following chapter. What happened in the conversation that made Zia stop avoiding Bryce? I also felt that Zia didn’t grasp the difference between love and lust, and her association of sex being love is very disheartening.

I am rating Chameleons 4 out of 4 stars. There was no reason to deduct stars for my personal dislikes, since they are based on my opinion of how Zia acted. I, personally, wouldn’t do what she did, but I do know people who have acted in the same manner. The story has an extraordinarily intense plot, and all the characters are very well-developed.

I would recommend readers that enjoy thrillers with a mix of romance to read this book. I feel the profanity and explicit scenes are inappropriate for young readers. There are innuendos of sexual exploitation and gruesome details of dismemberment that could be upsetting to readers sensitive to those topics.

Thrillers and romance are probably my favorite genre mix, but I agree with you: Zia made poor choices due to a lax moral code, and that should not be misconstrued as a mental illness. Some people simply let their instincts make their decisions.
Thank you for such an open-minded review. It's not easy to admit that our personal dislikes are not always flaws.

I have read this book, and the suspense that the book has also made me enjoy it the most. I didn't see the plot twist coming. I recommend it everyone.

This book seems very intriguing. I would love to read about Zia, Bryce and Baxter's love triangle. Jazz sounds like a friend we all need in our lives. Thanks for the beautiful review.

This book was excellent a perfect thriller I read it in two days every chance I got I was reading it loved every page.I loved Zia character was amazing I felt so sorry for her in some part she had it had Zia felt scared and alone even though she was a strong person. I was shocked at the ending it definitely kept me in suspense every chapter was a new plot so you never know what was going to happen next. I loved all the characters. I loved the writing in this book and the cover is just amazing .
