In Unkown Vengeance by Patrick O’Brien, the chase for a serial killer by two detectives keeps you guessing on how to solve the puzzles. As you delve into the lives of the killer, victims, and the detectives searching for them, you become engulfed with the mystery of the killer's motive. Each chapter provides a new perspective on the characters and their struggles. Every clue left by the killer keeps you trying your best to solve the riddles before the detectives do. The intense scenes between the murderer and his victims keep you engaged in the story and makes it impossible to put down.

This book had excellent character development and really brought all the people in the story to life. You begin to connect with each of them in their own lives and troubles. The flow of how this book is set up keeps the narrative exciting and suspenseful by switching between different perspectives. I was fully engulfed in the imagery the author created. It really puts you directly into the scenes of danger and thrill.

Some of the proceedings between detectives and their colleagues can get a little tedious but most of the information is relative to the characters' development and the plot. It is like real detective work where it is not all glitz and glamour and sometimes it is just nitty-gritty grinding to get answers.

I would rate this book 3 out of 4 stars. I thoroughly enjoyed the read and would have given it 4 stars based on the story itself but there are numerous errors in the book. It has over 10 grammatical errors and needs some more editing, but the story alone is solid. It gripped you from the first page all the way through to the end and kept you wondering who would prevail, the killer or the detectives.

I would recommend this book to people who love reading true crime stories. It is best for mature readers because there are some gory scenes with the victims that could be unsettling to some. There is also a fair amount of profanity in the story, but it adds to the authenticity of the characters and how they would act outside of the book. As I mentioned before, there were more than ten errors in the writing that need to be addressed but if you can overlook those, this book will drive you right into the mystery of the “who” and the “why” of the crime.
