[Following is a volunteer review of "Spirit of the Season" by Brian Lamont.]
Spirit of the season by author Brain Lamont is a story about a candle maker and his life. It shows how he inherited his craft from his father and how he furthered his craft. It shows the trials he faced to mature and learn about the environment he lived in. He learned to love, to believe and to spread love. It shows his growth from a shy boy to a man loved by all. He learns to love and he sees the tragic loss of his loved ones. He goes through the loss and heartbreak in solitude. He goes through a selfless journey to bring love and joy to all around him. We get to learn about the differences in the seasons and how the main character as well as the other characters change throughout the seasons and the years that follow. Although we see mostly the main character's actions we get a glimpse of how his work affects all the others around him and those what he comes in contact with.
The author Brian Lamont has penned the story for the reader to be beside the main character as a shadow that follows him. We see the story in third person. The book was well edited.
I would rate Spirit of the season 3 out of 4. It is enjoyable and simple to read. Gives you a happy feeling to read it although there are instances where it was very thrilling and anticipating.
Spirit of the season has a very simple form of writing that it is easily understandable to the younger audience as well as to someone whose first language is not English. It clearly depicts the feelings and surrounding of the main character. We see the candle maker grow from his days as a boy to his old age.
I would recommend the book to young adults and also to adults who like to have a realistic read. It is simple to understand and can be easily read by people who donot speak English as a first language or are learning English. All in all it is a beautiful book with an equally beautiful story. This book is an ideal fireside tale that can be read during Fall or Winter, surrounded by the warmth. I would encourage it to be read to children not younger than 10 years by adults as a form of bounding during holidays. Read it with a mug of hot chocolate and a soft playlist is highly recommended.
