Blood Red Moon by Lee Roberts tells the story of Diana Miranda, a paramedic who just started living and working in New Orleans, and Austin, a mechanic who works in a chemical plant. Austin’s friend, a fellow worker at the plant, died in front of their eyes on the day they first met. Diana and Austin, who became quick friends at the first meeting, decided to uncover the whole mystery behind the incident. What awaits them are things beyond their expectations as they were dragged into the middle of deadly local myths.

The story starts well, the mystery premise successfully hooked me into the story as the main characters try to find the clues behind the incident. The interesting part of the story is the involvement of local myths like voodoo, zombies, and vampires that makes us wonder whether they are involved or responsible for the incident. Lee Roberts did a good job of describing the setting and the scenery of New Orleans or at least helped me imagine it.

Like a typical mystery novel, it involves the character talking to many people to find information to help them find the culprit or resolve the mystery. When you start to think that the investigation part is too repetitive, the story hits you with some nice thrilling tension, and boy do I enjoy those moments. Diana and Austin’s chemistry is written well with the funny flirtatious banter and jokes, the sarcasm and comedic relief are on point, the writing style of the conversation makes it easy to just love the main characters duo (Diana and Austin). Not to forget the series of unfortunate events that the main characters went through together, you can feel like the more time they spend together the stronger they become.

The story is engaging in the first half thanks to the premise, but it gets slower in the later half since you can already predict the culprit with a few clues. I don’t feel like the main character’s motivation is strong enough for them to risk their lives to resolve the issue at hand. I am not a fan of the timing of the erotic scenes, it just feels out of place most of the time, it kind of disturbs the mood that already built in the previous scenes. I don’t mind the erotic scenes, I think it just needs to be placed better. There are a few typos but they don’t bring any problems at all.

I rate this book 2 out of 4 stars. This is a good starter for people who are interested in mystery, it is light and easy to follow. Overall I think the story is a fun read after a busy day, it is not a mystery that needs your brain to work hard to try to understand the whole situation, you can just follow the story and enjoy the characters' interactions. If you are an avid mystery reader, you may find this book on the boring side.

I would like to thank the author for all the hard work that went into making this story.
