President's day by Dr Stephen A Werbel is about Mrs Sylvia Parrish, a 90 year old woman who is accused of assassinating the president of the USA. It is claimed by hundreds of witnesses that she shot the president at close range but she denies it. The camera footage of her doing it does not change her stance. How is she going to defend herself against these accusations if she does not remember a thing? The story is also about an assassinated president whose death is widely celebrated within and outside the USA. How will justice be served for the killing of a man who was much hated for the many atrocities he commited against his country and the world? With the authorities demanding answers and her freedom at stake, Mrs Parrish is forced to accept the help of Dr Ariyoshi and Mr Harding a lawyer. How will the possible involvement of a Russian spy and the great public support affect her case?

The book takes one through the mind of the main character as her emotions turn from horror to relief. It also tells the life story of Mrs Parrish and how different events in her life could have led to this unfortunate situation. I liked that the book gives the reader some insight about psychology and the interesting ways the mind works as it explains in detail the main character's thoughts and feelings.

I found Mrs Parrish's character very interesting and likeable and was amused by the fact that her view of herself greatly contradicted what she actually was. For example she thought herself to be a frail, boring 90year old and yet she was very energetic with a mind of a 50 year old.

What I disliked about this book is that the author fails to hide his personal negative emotions. Many references he made to the hated leader including slogans, views and even personal details where similar to a real life former president of the USA. Moreover whenever he made reference to this character ( which was plenty of times) he uses many profanities and abusive language. I couldn't help but suspect that the author is expressing hatred of this leader through this book which is not a problem, if the fact was not made too obvious.

Secondly, the court scene which I expected to be dramatic was very short, uneventful and even unrealistic for such a high profile case. I thought the issue of Rozinsky and Mr Herrera should have been included to make it more interesting. I felt that their characters brought an new twist to the investigation, but they were dropped along the way without plausable cause.

I would recommend this book for adults because of the many profanities and abusive language it contains. I would not reccommend it for a USA republican party supporting audience because they might find it offensive.

The book was well edited so I rate it 2 out of 4 because sadly in the last half unlike in the first, the book looses its pace and becomes boring and predictable.
