After witnessing the murder of a friend and a bombing attack on his life, Gregory Mcgregor, a geological engineer turns into a spy in Karen Black's thriller,TINMAN. Charley Farnsworth, a friend of Gregory, had contacted him before his death about an important job featuring a nine-digit secret that he could not speak about over the phone. Instead of contacting the police, Gregory stays undercover and teams up with Charley's housemaid, Corky Gonzales to find out who is responsible for the killings and what was the nine-digit secret that his friend spoke about. As the pair unravels the mysteries that threaten their lives, a love sparks. Will this love prevent them from completing the mission safely? Or will they end up dead?

While reading Karen Black's novel there were two specific things in the book that I found interesting. This novel is a character-driven story. Throughout the book, the main character, Gregory McGregor's, feelings and emotions are narrated as he goes through different factors of his mission. For instance, shock after witnessing his friends death and admiration when he first met Corky Gonzales. One other thing that I liked about this novel is that it is an action-packed book. There was not one dull moment in any part of the book. Every chapter is filled with action and ended in cliffhangers which kept me interested.

In this novel, there was one thing that I disliked. In my opinion, although it was action-packed, the book went quite slow. This was one thing that I did not quite enjoy in Karen Black's novel.

I would like to rate this novel 3 out of 4 stars. I chose this rating because this book kept me interested throughout the majority of the chapters. This book was written well but in some ways, it could have been better.

Whilst reading the novel I came across mature scenes and a bit of profanity. Therefore, I'd recommend this to a more mature audience. This was not meant for young teens and children.
