[Following is a volunteer review of "Sandra Eden's War" by Michael Low.]
Sandra Eden's War by Mike Low revolves around a British Special Operations Executive (SOE) named Sandra Eden. Sandra is sent to France to disrupt the German troop movements a few weeks before D-Day. This book follows Sandra as she goes through challenges faced during war, escaping near-death experiences many times, meets new allies and faces all adversity with bravery and intelligence. At the same time, Sandra shatters prevalent gender stereotypes and changes women's image as she leads one mission after another, despite other men questioning her abilities and skill.
I absolutely loved Sandra Eden's War by Mike Low. This story brings life to the brave, vigilant officers who gave it their all to fight for freedom. The feelings of the characters and their families paint a vivid picture of the reality of World War 2. This is an action-packed tale that is not far from reality and displays the feelings and thoughts of the real-life heroes when they were surrounded by war. Moreover, Sandra Eden's War shows the contributions of women in war. At the time when gender stereotypes heavily influenced society, women in the war proved themselves to be just as strong, intelligent, brave and determined as men. This story inspires people, especially women, to break stereotypes and stand up to injustice.
While reading Sandra Eden's War by Mike Low, there was not a single time I felt bored, or I did not like the book. This story captures the brutality of war and leaves the readers understanding the bravery and sacrifice of all the soldiers involved in the war. Plus, the effects of war on innocent citizens are also demonstrated, giving readers sympathy for those that lost their loved ones due to the brutality of war. Although this is a fast-paced story, it adds adventure and captivates the readers, so I did not dislike anything about this book.
I gave Sandra Eden's War by Mike Low 4 out of 4 stars. The way in which this story indulges the readers is commendable, as it has been written after in-depth research and shows different perspectives and levels of the war that Sandra was a big part of. Moreover, while reading, I did not find a single grammar or spelling error because this book has been exceptionally well-edited; therefore, I gave it a full star rating.
I would recommend this book to ages to ages twelve and up. Although this book does not have any profanities, it does have vivid descriptions of war and torture endured by the soldiers, which can be better understood and appreciated by older audiences.
In conclusion, Sandra Eden's War by Mike Low is an excellent story that shows the contributions of soldiers, especially women, resulting in the freedom we enjoy today. Readers will be left in goosebumps after reading the story of Sandra Eden.
