Tales of Seventies by David Done is an anthology of seven short stories and a novel inspired by close friends of the author and newspaper stories, trying to reveal what’s behind heavy drugs use. The stories are all set in California in the 1970’s, an era of change an innovation, exploring the themes of young love moved by LSD, crime, treason, search of escape and collateral effects of drug use seen from the inside.

All of the characters were chased by an persistent felling of fear and search of something they never catch and a lot of inner demons taken to a higher level by the drugs. The author develops every character deeply taking the reader trough they´re desires, motivation, loss and loneliness, resulting in dark and raw stories marked by murder, crime, violence and suicide. The novel does not have a linear plot, is based on the evolution of the delirium of its main character in search of escape and how everyone around him ignored his problem, until it was more than evident in a scandalous and sudden way. The most striking feature of this book is not the events narrated but the mental state that each character goes through, in addition to providing an unconventional view of the 70's.

This book has some positive points. They are very direct stories and fit perfectly into the profile of a short story, with simple language loaded with graphic details without boring the reader with unnecessary details.

I didn’t found anything to dislike in the book. It was very clear and honest making up a compendium of enjoyable short stories.
The book was exceptionally well-edited. I found no spelling or grammatical errors n it. Taking this into account, I'll rate Tales of Seventies by David Done 4 out of 4 stars. . I didn’t give the book a lower rating because it was a sharp read and there wasn’t editing errors to deduct a single star from the book.

I highly recommend this anthology to fans of short stories, people who like unusual tales and explore different states of mind and get to know similarities between seventies and actuality. If you prefer predictable stories and a classic vision of seventies this is not the book for you.

Some of the writings include profanity language, mild violence, and several scenes mentioning explicit sexual situations, that may disturb some readers who do not appreciate so many graphic details.
