[Following is a volunteer review of "All Good Things" by Rosemary Reeve.]
All Good Things is a captivating murder mystery book that begins with the main character Jack Hart. During a regular day at his job, Jack realizes that today is not going to be just another normal day. Instead its going to be a winding, jerking, and chilling kind of day. You'll follow Jack and the Seattle police through all the bits and pieces of clues that they are going to need, in order to solve these unfortunate events in Jack's unsuspecting life.
While I was going through the story there were a number of positive aspects that I liked. First, I love mystery, this book gave me lots of that. The murders were startling and finding out who the murderer was was also shocking. I loved that the book didn't just give the murderer away, in fact I had no idea that it was who it ended up being. The clues all leading up to the murderer were fun and kept me reading for the answers. And I also enjoyed that the book was easy to read and understand.
Unfortunately, there were a couple of things that I believe negatively impacted the story. I feel, like the story would have been more exciting if there had been a bit more violence. Having more description and violence in those moments really puts the image into the readers head and I just feel like I needed more description when it came to those portions of the book. I also have no knowledge on law firms and therefore I wasn't always sure what the characters were talking about, so I got a bit lost at those parts.
Overall, I was very pleased with this book. I give it a 4/4 rating based on a number of things. The book really stayed true to having a real mystery behind it, the clues and characters were well put together and interesting. I really enjoyed that the murderer was someone I didn't even think of to be a suspect, but that might just have been my own inexperience. The wording was easy to follow and understand, which made it a breeze to read. And, as much as I would prefer more gore in my murder mysteries, I don't believe the lack of it was enough to dock a point from it. Rosemary Reeve deserves a 4/4.
When I think of people that I would recommend this book to, I think of anyone in their teens and on. Regardless of there being death in the book, I find that aspect to be very light and that's why I feel like it is appropriate for an audience as low as teenagers. Anyone who enjoys mysteries will enjoy this book, especially anyone that prefers their mysteries to not be filled with profanity and sex and hard-core violence. It fits anyone who wants an easy-going thrill with little bits of shock every now and again.
