Review of The Mystery Of Flight 2222

[Following is a volunteer review of "The Mystery Of Flight 2222" by Thomas Neviaser.]
The Mystery of the Flight 2222 belongs to the Thriller/Mystery genre. It is a story of nine strangers aboard Flight 2222 which ends up crashing in the middle of the ocean. It portrays their individual struggles with surviving storms, hunger, hallucinations, sharks, dehydration, and even each other. The story plays into account the deeds of their past lives, i.e., before the crash, in a suspenseful way.
Being a fan of survival stories myself, this book by Thomas Neviaser is a good pick. It has all the elements of a ‘stranded in the middle of the ocean’ tale. I like the variations in the personalities of the characters and all the ways they individually contribute to the story. The book keeps one hooked to figure out the real mystery until the end.
All that being said, there are a few negatives about the book. Firstly, the plot of the story seems quite unoriginal as if it were pieced together from some other great plots with similar storylines. It needs clarity and fine-tuning. Secondly, the characters haven't been developed to their full potential. They behave stereotypically and have unrealistic dialogues. Personally, these details still can be overlooked if the actual suspense lived up to the fuss. Sadly, that was not the case. In the end, the author, via a narrator, attempts to explain why every individual character deserves the fate that came their way. These reasons the author provides seem extreme and unjustified.
Overall, I rate this book 2 out of 4 stars because it is a decent read and was easy to finish. Although, it seems like a work-in-progress and does not have a complete, well-thought storyline. It can be improved upon, as the plot has the potential to be really engaging and interesting. The author should work on giving the characters more depth and appropriate dialogues to make them more relatable and realistic. He should also focus on their backstories with proper care to help the story effectively deliver the author’s message of ‘What goes around comes around.'
I think this book will appeal to people who are interested in survival stories and all things related. The author describes various situations such as dealing with hunger, dehydration, isolation and the trauma caused by facing these situations which can be interesting to read about. The book is definitely not for someone with a weak stomach as there are gruelling scenes with cannibalism described in morbid detail.
