Review of A Bloody Book
A Bloody Book, was the type of book that you thought was boring at first. Its a depressing, funny and a book where you can sort of relate to, or some may be able to relate to.
Max has a hard life; with no parents to look after him and his little sister. He attends school, but his class is for the "slow children". He tells the life of a teenager that is in school. With a father that couldn't care about his family; a mother that just takes the beatings. Who will step up and take care of this family? Max is practically Rosie's mother and father in one person. His form teacher of "Reading Hell" is planning to retire, on her last few days at the school; she tends to take her anger out on Max. But Max just allows her; since its best to let your anger out. As Ms Spencer tells Max about all the kids that has caused her trouble over the past few years; her wig falls off. The children begin to laugh at her. Has Ms Spencer gotten more angry? What will she do to them? As the weeks go by, Max gets a new teacher; Mr Foxx. He is a typical teacher who just doesn't care; or does he? Is he there just for the money? He begins by saying "Is this the stupid class? With the stupid learners in?" As usual the learners keep quiet, no one talks in there. So why try and make them talk now? He then gives them a activity to do; but afterwards he throws the biggest fit the learners has ever seen. What caused him to become this angry? As the days go on, Max's father passes away, from an overdose. How does he feel about his abusive dad passing away? Mr Foxx assigns the learners with a deep thinking activity; called "when did you stop giving a crap". After Max's dad passed, he thought that his mother would be the same again, she would be as happy as she was back in Highschool. But did she ever become happy again? After an incident that took place at Max's household; his mother took her car keys, walked out the door; got in her car and drove off. Did she ever come back? Or was she gone for good? Was this when Max stopped giving a crap? Now with a mother that got up and left, a dead father; Max now has the responsibilty to look after Rosie. How will a nine year old look after a two year old? There isn't much food left at home, and the food that there is they have to stretch it out, until their mother comes back. On day two out of the four, Max noticed a man standing outside their house. Of course he didn't think much of it, until he looked out the window and the man was right outside the window. Who is he? What does he want? He goes by the name of Johnny; but Max has a bad feeling about this guy. He offers to take them out for dinner and watch them until Leslie( Max's mother) gets back. After having a huge meal to eat, Johnny then tells them that he will have to drop them off at the social services place; the place Max has been trying to avoid since his mother left. Max needs a plan to get rid of Johnny; so him and Rosie doesn't have to go there. What will the plan be? Johnny hasn't turned out the guy that Max thought he would be; he makes Rosie laugh, he cooks them food and looks after them. But with the plan that Max has; this side of Johnny is making it harder for his plan to be sucessful. Will he still be going with his plan? Or will he drop his plan? The day is finally here, where the plan is put into action; they are on their way to social services. Max has Rosie laying on the floor with a pillow with her; he has his needle ready. He places it by Johnny's neck; but does he do it? The car crashes into a tree, is everyone okay? Did Max's plan work out? Is Johnny still alive? Or did he Max's stop his plan?
Chris Bowen has made a fantastic book. At first I thought the book was boring; I was ready to stop reading it. But I kept reading because the book started to become interesting. The part I liked about this book, was how there was no profanities and no mature content in this book. Its a book that might keep you wanting to stop reading in the beginning; but as you read further you just don't want to stop.
The negative aspect that I can only identify was how long each chapter was in this book. Generally I like long chapters, but in this type of book it just didn't work well for me. But as the chapters went on, I realised why its long.
This book was 100% kid friendly, it was a good book in which Chris Bowen really took his time to right it out. I rate this book 4 out of 4; it was an excellent book that contained under 5 errors, which rarely happens.
This book is recommended for young adults, but in my opinion I recommend this book to anyone; because the content of this book is really for anyone.
