[Following is a volunteer review of "Love, Grandma" by Ann Morris.]
Love, Grandma by Ann Morris is a lovely children’s book that will transport you to your early childhood days. Was Grandma your most favorite person in the world? Was it because she gave you extra cookies? Do you miss your Grandma’s stories? This book would make you nostalgic about your childhood and make you want to be a child again!
Ann has two granddaughters, Haley and Payton. She shares her memories of their time together through this book. She recalls their fun moments and how she used to play with them. When Payton was born, the author was delighted. They would read books and play with toys. After Haley’s birth, the three of them used to have a blast together. They would play with buttons, bake cookies of different shapes and colors, paint Ann’s nails, and put clips on her hair. They would watch a special show and have sleepovers at Ann’s house. In the backyard of her house, they would feed the birds and make handprint stones, which she used to put in her garden. They even used to build tent houses and buses using blankets, toys, and stools.
The author has used beautiful illustrations to go along with the text. They make the book more engaging for the kids. I loved the one with them throwing buttons in the air. However, my favorite moment was the one where the author tries to do a backbend. Her love for Haley and Payton was palpable through the lovely illustrations and text. Some of them made me reminisce about some such moments I had with my grandmother. I loved that she has set the text in a rhyming manner. The combination of appealing illustrations and text would make it more understandable for the children.
There was nothing I disliked about the book. It seemed exceptionally well-edited. I didn’t find any errors. I would gladly rate this book four out of four stars. After reading this book, the kids would learn to cherish the time they share with their grandparents. They would appreciate how precious even the smallest moments are.
I would recommend this book to kids who are at least 4 to 8 years old. It can help them understand the importance of family. This story would not only make the kids value their grandparents, but it would also keep them entertained.
