Yesterday by Samyann is a story of a woman who’s been through so many heart wrenching losses and is determined to find answers in her past lives. Amanda is convinced that she will lose anyone she loves, and tells herself she will never allow herself to love anyone again. Mark feels unexplainably drawn to Amanda and will stop at nothing to break down the walls to her heart. Is his love strong enough to overcome her fears and endure no matter what? Read this book to find out!

There were many things to enjoy about this book. Samyann does a great job telling the story using flashbacks as opposed to in a linear fashion. This kept the story intriguing and developing multiple characters at once. It was also well edited, which is always a positive. Overall this book was distinctive and enjoyable to read.

One thing I didn’t enjoy about Yesterday is there are a couple places where it feels like there are plot holes. Part of this is the nature of the book and slow unveiling of the past, so most instances are fairly quickly resolved and then make sense. One example of this is between the end of chapter 6 and beginning of 7; feels like a small transition is missing.

I rate this book a 3 out of 4. Despite a few parts that left me feeling like I had missed something, the story was compelling and enjoyable to read. Errors weren’t noticeable and the story felt unique. I didn’t feel like I was reading just a twist of someone else’s story.

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys love stories that go beyond this lifetime and love the concept of soulmates. The reader should also be open to ideas about life and death within the reincarnation mindset. Anyone who is not interested in reincarnation should skip this book, they definitely would not enjoy this story.

One more thing I would like to address about Yesterday is that I feel it would be wise to add a trigger warning to the book. There were several parts that could potentially be extremely difficult for some to read. One instance is the rape (or almost rape?) in the Civil War timeline. The other thing that could potentially be triggering is the way Mark pursues Amanda at times. There were multiple places in the book where Mark physically will not let Amanda leave the room or walk away. Now he isn’t hurting her and it’s definitely written to convey his dedication and persistence to convince her how much he truly cares. However, I think this could be hard to read for those who have ever been in an abusive relationship or been relentlessly pursued by someone who’s attention they didn’t want.
