Review of Demon Freaks

[Following is a volunteer review of "Demon Freaks" by J.R.R.R. (Jim) Hardison.]
Have you ever been so unprepared for a school test that you've come up with weird scenarios in your head where it gets canceled? What would you do if one of those scenarios came true? If you had a choice between writing the test and fighting a demonic cult, what would you choose?
It's the night before the SATs; a storm hits the town, and the lights go out. Bing and his friends haven't finished studying, so they hope the test gets postponed. Little do they know that their priorities are going to change from studying to survival within minutes. Their professor attacks them with an evil dagger, the Servants of Darkness and Golfers are chasing them, Meat and Kaitlyn get kidnapped and are to be used as a sacrifice. Now it is up to Bing and Ron to save them. Will they succeed?
Demon Freaks by J.R.R.R. (Jim) Hardison is a horror-thriller novel with a dash of humor. It has a decent plot, and the execution is well done. The book is very descriptive, with detailed scenes and character backgrounds. Every character is given a distinct personality with their quirks and thought processes that make it easy to understand them. The story has very little logic, but that seems intentional, as it aims to be more of a wild ride where you enjoy what is happening without giving it much thought.
Some parts were hilarious, while others were action-packed. I don't think there was ever a moment where the book slowed down or got boring. The twists kept coming, and with every revelation, the book got more interesting. I also liked the way it explored telepathic communication between the main characters. The final showdown was amazing, and I was satisfied with the conclusion.
There were two things I didn't like about the book. Kaitlyn was the only female protagonist, and the way she was represented annoyed me. She barely had anything sensible to say throughout the book and was obsessed with taking long showers. That's all there was to her. The Servants of Darkness were also the villains, but they only appeared at the beginning and in the end. There was barely any background information about them.
I rate this book 3 out of 4 stars for being an entertaining and fun-filled read. I did not find any errors, so I can say the book is exceptionally well edited. It does contain profanity and instances where characters are thinking about naked women or are naked themselves. There are also gory scenes, so readers below 18 years of age should steer clear of the book. Certain things may offend some readers, like constantly exclaiming "Jesus Christ" and calling God a jerk, so they may need to avoid it. I recommend it to readers who enjoy a mix of horror and comedy genres.
