Review of The Different Kinds Of Monsters
The Different Kinds Of Monsters by Seth Chambers tells a story of two different dimensions. It talks about the life and adventures of a boy, Dylan. The story begins with Dylan's visit to his father's hospital. The author then takes us back to his childhood. Young Dylan had a rough childhood. This caused him to travel a lot. He never stayed in one place long enough to make some real friends. Dylan was a boy with a very big imagination. He was obsessed with dinosaurs. He saw them as beautiful and fascinating creatures and would often play with them using his imagination. Dylan grew up to be a teacher. He has a daughter, Madison and a wife, Natalie. His father, Tom Armitage had warned him of the different kinds of men in their world. Dylan was afraid he would turn into the kind that brings terror into their family. Did his fear become a reality? Seth would take you on a fascinating journey to discover the different kinds of monsters there are.
This book is divided into two sections which run concurrently. The second part of the book talks about First. She is a young Allosaurus that lived during the late Jurassic period. She had three siblings but lost one during an attack by some predators. As the story unfolds, First learns some of the attributes needed to survive in the wild, most especially patience. But the world she lives in is a dangerous one. Will she be able to survive after her mother leaves?
This book has a lot of positive aspects. The author employed a unique writing style. The author introduced the characters in a commendable manner. It was easy to keep track of the characters and enjoy the story being told by the author. The use of flashbacks in the story was excellent. For instance, when Dylan's childhood was brought up. Also, the author made good use of suspense to keep the reader wanting to read more. I enjoyed everything about this book. The book was exceptional. The author narrated two stories in two different settings and still kept the book going smoothly. I found it easy to follow the two stories without getting confused.
However, this book also has some negative aspects. There were too many vulgar words in the book. There was no warning from the author to the readers about the strong language. Also, I felt most of them were unnecessary. I found just an error in this book which is a plus. Chapter 28 was repeated and the two chapters had different contents.
Nevertheless, I still rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. I gave it a perfect rating because the faults I found in the book did not hinder my overall pleasure from the book and I didn’t rate it lower because I admired the author's technique of writing. This book was worth my time. I found it very difficult to take my eyes off it. I recommend this book to young readers. Also, anyone who enjoys fiction would have a wonderful time reading this book.
