[Following is a volunteer review of "Sandra Eden's War" by Michael Low.]
The book, Sandra Eden’s War by Michael Low narrates the fictional story set up in the era of the Nazis who were trying to devastate Europe while facing many resistance operations from the enemy. The protagonist of the book, Sandra Eden is an SOE (Special Operations Executive) agent trained to help the resistance operations during World War II. The story takes you through the journey of a few months through Sandra Eden’s life. The book portrays Sandra Eden to be a very courageous and outgoing figure of her times.
I loved the character of Sandra Eden, a strong woman. Many instances throughout the story prove that she is a determined and brave lady, ready to sacrifice her life in a battle to gain freedom. There are many characters that come and go as you flip pages. These characters help in the flow of the narrative adding flavor to the story. The story takes you through a trail of immense sacrifice, survival and patriotism even when facing the enemy in the eye.
There was nothing I did not like about the book. The book has the right pace with no element of boredom in it. I loved the fact that the personal life of the characters are not dealt with much detail. It helps the reader guide themselves through the important incidents rather than being swayed off. The story explains how the smallest of the small incidents helped the war. Most of the times such crucial moments are never known to the world.
The book is professionally edited. I especially loved the dialogue at the very end of the book. The book is best suited for anyone who loves history and historical fiction. It would also be a good read for school students as it has almost no profanity. Although the book deals primarily with the historical content, the language is quite simple and easy to follow.
Compared to other books I’ve read on historical fiction, this book bears an element of continuous twists for the reader to hold on until the very end. Sandra Eden’s War deserves a rating of four out of four stars. It provides the reader quite a picture of the resistance networks and all they had to go through. Reading stories would be the easiest way to know history, in my opinion. Although specific details of the history might not be accurate, such stories definitely help convey the crucial atmospheres of our history.
