Chasing A Flawed Sun by Daniel McGhee is a captivating autobiography that explores the mind of a heroin addict. This story reveals many hardships and tragedy as well as the glimmers of hope. It highlights the mental battle that the addict faces throughout their struggle and places a huge emphasis on the importance of taking responsibility for one’s actions.

From the moment I started reading this book I could not bring myself to stop, I entered a world that was the opposite of what I am used to. The book touches on a very prevalent problem that affect many people across the globe. As the author journeyed through his life and struggle, I was compelled to feel the emotions with him. I cried, felt sad and even frustrated at times, and then eventually celebrated the victory of the battle along with him.

The book has changed my perception on a lot of things within my own life. Although I am not an addict/recovering addict, there are important principles that I have garnered from Daniel McGhee’s story. I have learned to be more compassionate towards people because everyone faces their own challenges in life, I have learned that it is important to have a good relationship with yourself both mentally and emotionally, but most importantly have learned the importance of faith and perseverance. There is something magical about faith, as it shows that no matter what struggles you face or how far you have fallen, there is always hope and you are worthy of it. This book was written with brutal honesty and emotion. I applaud the fact that he did not sugar-coat anything or altered his story to make it more appealing or less offensive. The story is captivating and has the ability to transport you mentally into a world that is different from your own but reveals principles that are basic for human survival.

I rate this book 4 out of 4 because it is a beautifully written story of a man’s life. I would highly recommend that you read this book as there are invaluable lessons within its covers. I hope that everyone will have the same enlightening experience that I have had.

This book has made a positive impact on me, and my hope is that it will continue impacting everyone who reads it, especially those struggling with their own battles. Enjoy the read!
