Review of Daisy's Run
While on their way to Earth, Daisy and the rest of the ship's crew are woken up six months earlier from cryogenic sleep. Their spaceship had suffered a strong impact, and the ship was experiencing mechanical issues. Repairs were needed; hence, the artificial intelligence watching the spaceship had to wake the human crew. Daisy works together with her crewmates to repair the ship. As Daisy digs deep into the issue at hand, she realizes there is something strange happening. She could feel that something was not right. One of the mechanically enhanced humans might not be who they seemed to be. Was Daisy just paranoid? Or was her gut feeling right?
Daisy’s Run is an enthralling science fiction novel, the first installment of the Clockwork Chimera Series, authored by Scott Baron. I found myself wholly drawn into the beautifully crafted world of this story. What can I say? This book is a real page-turner; I didn’t want to put it down because I was so eager to know what will transpire on the next page.
The pacing of this book was fast, and it easily evoked different emotions in me while I was reading it. Well, there wasn't much time to talk about unnecessary things. The protagonist was busy trying to figure out what is happening with the ship before she ran out of time, and that tension dictated the pacing of this book. As a fan of science fiction movies, I could easily paint the right mental pictures while reading this book.
The character development in this book was top tier. The characters are well-developed with unique personalities, which made them seem like they were real people. I could easily relate with Daisy, and I cared about what she went through. Sometimes trust is hard to come by. Therefore, it was easy to relate to the lack of trust between Daisy and her fellow crew members.
There is nothing that I disliked in this book. It takes readers into an adventure far away into space, introducing them to cyborgs and otherworldly technologies. It explores space travel and deals with the consequences of scientific and technological advances. The author allowed us to climb into his mind and see the world through his eyes — a tweaked world that is a little unfamiliar. I have no reason for taking away stars from my ratings. I give this book a rating of 4 out of 4 stars. The editing was exceptional; I did not encounter any grammatical errors while reading it.
I recommend this book to any adult who is a fan of science fiction. It contains profane language; therefore, it is not commendable to young readers or any other readers who are sensitive to such language.
