Review of Underdog Thinking
[Following is a volunteer review of "Underdog Thinking" by Atul Vir.]
Underdog thinking is a real life business adventure of Atul Vir, a hands-on CEO, seasoned entrepreneur, inventor, business ethics thought leader and speaker. He tells his odyssey of entrepreneurship, the ups and downs, his business ethics and the spirit of never give in. This book is a compilation of pros and cons, risks and the importance of building relationships based on mutual trust in a business which are self-experienced by the author.
Being a native to India, Atul Vir has always been fascinated by Africa. He really got excited when he got his first job as a financial auditor at a London-based import-export Company with offices in different parts of Africa. But suddenly after the overthrowing of power in Africa, the whole economic scenario changes and everyone including the author lost their jobs. Therefore, he moved to America with his family where he starts his own enterprise. While building his empire from scratch he got the taste of everything- the rise and the fall in business, the unexpected betrayals and several unforeseen circumstances which left the author at the crossroads, whether to give in and give up or to push through and win. Author has tried to give inspiration to the readers through Underdog thinking.
The approach of the author to tell his journey is remarkable as it is also undoubtedly relatable to a reader who doesn't have any financial knowledge or economic knowledge. The best thing was the life lessons quoted by the author throughout the book while telling his journey which kept me inspired and motivated throughout the reading. He has tried to give inspiration to the readers through practical business lessons at every step that he learnt from being an immigrant in America to being a CEO of Equator appliances for more than 25 years. Moreover, the author has considerably highlighted the importance of family for a businessperson as being a source of mental and emotional support.
There was nothing that I disliked in the book. The book is well edited as I found null errors. Even telling a business odyssey, the language used was simple enough to be understood by a layman. Thus, it deserves to be in the bookshelves of every reader.
Altogether I confidently rate it 4 out of 4 stars. It is recountable with a wide range of readers, from beginners in the entrepreneurship to a layman pursuing different dreams or goals as it teaches some genuine moral values. I would recommend it to those who likes to read self-motivational books. However, it will be best suited to those who wants to start their journey as an entrepreneur.
