Jude Shaw wrote the book titled, Leaving Dahomey. In the book, Adeoha, a brave teenager, was zealous of making a name for herself. Her strong determination landed her in trouble with the king of the land, when her popularity became a threat to the king. Thus, she ran away for safety in America, with the assistance of her father. The land of Dahomey was blessed with a rare gem, through Tubutu and Lamtaala (her parents). By providence, she was enlisted among the performers of the traditional dance. With time, she scaled through. In fact, she once aided Sewextu, her intimate friend, to win a dancing contest.

One of the positive aspects of the book is that it teaches bravery. Adeoha was not deterred by the challenges she encountered in her struggle for survival. She was fearless, even, in danger. Many people often quit when the road to success becomes rough. It was evident from her life that only the brave will succeed.
Another positive aspect of this book is that it teaches about determination. You do not stop until you reach your destination. Do not be satisfied with your present situation when you can enjoy a better life. Just as Adeoha was very determined, we should defy all odds to achieve our goals. Also, the book teaches that diligence pays. This virtue attracted so many benefactors to Adeoha. This made her famous. Consequently, the king misconstrued it for a threat. Adeoha could have been discouraged by some pessimistic opinions of people surrounding her. However, she was always positive in her thinking.
She gathered enough information about any business she intended to venture into, not leaving out the advantages of the geographical location that will suit her enterprise.

The book contains lots of moral lessons that one can imbibe to overcome every obstacle one meets on the path to success. I could not observe any negative aspect in the book.

The book was exceptional written to leave a good impression on the minds of its readers so that no typographical errors were observed therein. Thus, I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars.

I recommend this book to everyone who struggles to make it in life. It gives an assurance of fulfillment if we will remain determined.
