The author Tayma Tameem, softly weaves the reader into an entertaining journey in the fantasy-adventure novel Mirrored Worlds. Within its plot is a fun world where magic is interlaced with 21st century gadgets and is practiced as part of their day-to-day living. Tameem lets us learn more about Reath through the young female protagonist Lila who we are introduced to as she works a typical desk job where she incorporates some magic into her boring work routines.

Our protagonist is soon to find that her life is drastically changed as she agrees to take on a mission and subsequently a journey where endless possibilities and dangers await. Luckily, she is not alone, and two very different and slightly intimidating team members are assigned to achieve a common goal. It is enjoyable to read the journey unfold with a team of such diverse races and characters as they face dangers and are each tested in their own ways to complete their mission.

Tameem skillfully takes time to let us learn about Reath alongside her young protagonist. It is predominantly through her eyes the world is built, as she learns more about Reath’s history, culture and land through her journey. Tameem is able to build her world thoroughly, layer by layer, without losing the reader’s interest in this way. Tameem writes well in that she does not over complicate the fantasy world and yet is able to allow the reader to feel comfortable and even enjoy the unfamiliar magical components.

We follow Lila who allows our insight of Reath to expand through meeting her team members Graute and Battleaxe. With a motley crew to begin a journey together; the excitement is tangible as the reader watches the suspenseful and hilarious group dynamics that ensue.

Tameem gives her characters time to talk, and by doing so, we learn about their values and their quirks. While mostly following Lila’s point of view, the occasional storytelling from Graute and Battleaxe heavily strengthened their characterization and furthered the plot. Tameem wonderfully gives equal devotion to the depth of each character and how their actions led them to embark on the same mission.

Reading and following the protagonists at times clash, argue, but also grow as a team to navigate through a magical world with monsters and villains kept the plot exciting, and humorous, with a few laugh out loud moments through out the book between the trio.
There is hardly ever a dull moment in the novel and always more amazing tidbits of Reath for the reader to learn about, whether it be: other races, new monsters or new magic.

While Mirrored Worlds was a fun and enjoyable read and was well written, there were times where descriptions were wordy which took away from the pacing of the novel.

I give this novel a rating of 3 out of 4 stars as it was greatly enjoyable and the characters and the world were well developed and kept the readers invested in the outcome of their journey the whole way.

Mirrored Worlds is a fun adventure novel recommended for young adults and adults, particularly those who enjoy fantasy that does not overshadow the plot. It is also a great read for those who enjoy some comedy in their reading and like an action packed adventure novel. The magical aspects of the novel are enjoyable and grand which make for great fighting scenes in the book.
