Mirrored Worlds is a fantasy novel about a young mage and her classified mission to save their planet, Reath. After graduating from university, Lila found a mundane desk job at the Bureau of Magic Affairs. It wasn't quite the job she was expecting. But soon she was taken away from the office and into a secret tunnel where she discover the existence of a mystical mirror. The mirror of a parallel world, one without the gift of magic. It was then revealed that a baby is born without any magical abilities, causing natural catastrophes not only in theirs but on both worlds. The only way to avert destruction and resume the balance is to find that baby and return him to the world on the opposite side of the mirror. And so together with Battleaxe the giant warrior and Graute the fugitive elf, Lila embarks on her very first mission to enter the most hostile island of Reath. They need to face ferocious monsters and escape a warring federation to find the infant.

I absolutely enjoyed reading this novel because of the protagonists and the cities they traveled.Among the three heroines, I like Lila the most. She was an inexperienced mage and never been into any life-threatening scenarios. Yet her character and abilities immensely grew stronger as the story progress. Battleaxe was also an intriguing hero but I find his character development limited and he became a bit too mysterious.

The settings and the state of each cities were also very entertaining to know. The author's way of writing is easy to read, straight-forward and the paragraphs are not too long. Ever so often in the early chapters, there are fun trivial details to discover like how normal citizens learned to use the Gift in their everyday living. Such as the old woman in the train levitating needles to weave socks and the boy hovering the paper plane inches away from the tip his finger. I like those trivial details.

However, there are few chapters where I find myself longing for more depth and waiting for more complicated choices to follow or cross, they are trying to save the world in the first place. The protagonists' encounter with the black-hooded creature is remarkable and chilling but I am hoping for a much more grandeur battle scene. I also would rather know a conclusive alternate scenario instead of a cliff-hanger abrupt ending. Although I wouldn't mind much about the abrupt end if there is a second or even third book in this series.

Overall, this a well-written novel. I didn't find any noticeable errors or typos. There are no curse words, religious and sexual content. I will rate this novel 3 out of 4 stars.

I recommend this book to readers of any age that is looking for a short fantasy novel with interesting heroines. This is the book you need if you want to pass time and temporarily immerse into a world spiced with magic.
