The Fourth Kinetic, written by Brady Moore, is a suspense filled story about a young man with an incredible secret ability. As Rion realizes nothing is what it seems, he embarks on a dangerous journey to find answers about himself, his ability, and who his father really is. While he struggles to make the right choices he develops friendships, and makes a powerful enemy. Rion finds a group of people much like himself, and discovers that there are four main clairvoyant abilities. Unfortunately the group of clairvoyants are divided into two groups, peaceful clairvoyants who only use their abilities to help people and another group who call themselves "predators" who go out of their way to cause mischief and mayhem. Rion finds himself caught between the two groups, playing peacekeeper, trying to get them to realize they can reach their mutual goal together instead of fighting each other and the enemy.

Moore is so descriptive in his writing that the readers will find themselves cheering for the good guys while feeling all of the fear and excitement of the characters. This book really depicts the emotional and intellectual maturity of a teenage boy who is just trying to navigate life while on the run from an evil military type group who want to capture him and his new friends.

I am hard pressed to find anything actually negative about this book. The mild language and slight violence might be offensive to some. I do wish more background and information was given about Rion's mother.

I would rate this book 3 out of 4. It was easy to read, the plot flowed nicely. There was action and teenage angst. It delved into the dynamic of the mother/son relationship as well as learning to navigate new friendships. It demonstrated the need to believe in yourself and have self confidence while learning it is ok to ask for help and be part of something bigger than yourself. Plus I enjoyed the fun aspect of a group of mind readers, telekinetics, prohpets, and someone that can astral project into other people all working together and considering themselves family. Oh! I can't forget the cat, she literally saved the day.

The recommended audience for this book is anyone who loves fantasy and the concept of "what if", young adults, readers who do not mind a little cussing, and adults who still find time to be young.
