How far would you go to protect the people you love? In this story of love and loyalty, Jace Grazer and his family must answer this question. Returning home after trying to make it on his own in New York, Jace has a hard time dealing with his own emotions over hurting the people he loves when he left town. In the process of healing his relationships with those closest to him, he figures out that just because you hurt someone doesn’t mean they will stop loving you. A Walk Through the Grapes is full of secrets and lies and the constant reminder that no matter how bad things might get, love is a powerful force that makes everything better.

I loved this book! The descriptions David Jackson provides of a small town and small-town life are spot on. The characters are very relatable and interesting. The development of the characters and their relationships to each other is easy to follow without having everything spelled out. The plot is great and just when I thought I had something figured out, I was proven wrong. The dialogue is natural and flows in a conversational tone and most of all the characters are believable. I felt like I knew these people and I couldn’t put the book down because I wanted to know what was happening in their lives.

There were some chapters that had what seemed to be intro quotes or paragraphs that were not directly a part of the story. This was a bit confusing and was not consistent throughout the book. There were a several grammatical errors but only a few were seriously distracting. There were flashbacks or memories in the book and sometimes it was hard to distinguish if events were taking place in the present or in the past.

I give this book 3 out of 4 stars. I can’t give it more than that because of the errors in grammar. The most distracting grammatical error was a change from third person to first person and then back to third person all in the same paragraph. A couple of the grammatical errors were repeated so it was obvious they were more than just typos. There were a few instances of profanity and some mature content.

I recommend this book for young adult or mature audiences. There is some profanity and there are two sexual scenes that would not be suitable for young audiences. There is also alcohol and drunkenness as well as criminal activity.
