[Following is a volunteer review of "The Demon of Reginhart" by Penn Scripter.]
The Demon of Reginhart by Penn Scripter is a Sci-Fi Fantasy book that tells the story of Marcus a man who has been possessed by two entities, the demon Tiecus and the ancient and powerful Warlock Asmara. Both co-exist within his mind sharing his consciousness as a barrier between their constantly warring natures. Although a fragile balance is maintained within Marcus it quickly becomes threatened as he is forced to take on an arduous journey that will not only threaten his existence but also his sanity. On this journey he is met with both terrifying and wonderful beings and circumstances that will either destroy him or possibly offer him salvation from his affliction.
In this book Penn Scripter manages to show us both his skills as a writer and a storyteller. He paints a vivid picture of this fantastical world where these complex characters come to life on the page.
The highlight of this story is the main character Marcus who is complex and well written. The conflict that goes on in his mind is depicted so intensely that we are forced to draw parallels to our own human nature and the demons we battle in our minds. It embodies the constant war between the conscious and subconscious mind quite vividly.
Although these characters are quite rich and intriguing, the book fails to give the reader any background to the origins of the characters and the fantastical world in which they exist.
As a result we are unable to connect to these characters on a deeper level. And so we are left wanting because we aren't joining these characters on their incredible journey but instead we are simply witnessing their adventure.
I recommend this book to both Sci-Fi and Fantasy readers as it is an incredible story of self discovery and improvement laced with magic and other worldliness.
But because of its many shortcomings I rate this book a 2 out of 4.
