[Following is a volunteer review of "How To Be Successful" by M. Curtis McCoy.]
How To Be Successful by M. Curtis McCoy is aimed at motivating individuals from every walks of life. Mr. McCoy has demonstrated through his personal story and the stories of others that one can indeed overcome trials and succeed in life, even at the lowest stage in their life, once they make that decision to move forward. Mr. McCoy shared his story, in which he was given just mere months to live, but with determination, he decided to embrace life and do his very best with the time he had remaining. This book is comprised of interviews with various persons in a variety of business sectors. Through fail attempts, through mistakes, with perseverance they made it.
The reader can appreciate the genuine responses that are provided from the persons interviewed. All questions are aimed at seeking ways in which individuals deal with and react to different situations in life. We all face situations and would be sure to relate to one or more of the persons in this book. It enables the reader to look how they themselves handle situations. The readings also comprises of valuable tips and advice that is useful for individual growth and development.
The topics discussed are real and relevant to life situations. One of my favorite was Practice Delayed Gratification, which is resisting immediate rewards. I found this to be interesting because it is not a topic frequently discussed, and we often believe that we should get what we want when we want it, not considering the long term damages.
This book is a simple read, but to appreciate and value the advice provided, one need to take time in reading. Once this is done, there can truly be some transformation in thought and behaviors.
I believe this book to be a necessary read in this season, where individuals need positive victory stories to relate to. I rate this book four out of four stars. Individuals who are struggling to find their way in business or in life would benefit from reading this book.
