The Wonks is a young adult book that talks about war. It talks of seven kids who became wonks , a name Johnny's mother nicknamed them as a result of their behaviour. Their behaviours ware compared to the wonks. The wonks are the animals in the dogs' family that are very prone to walking that is they belong everywhere in the American land.

Author William Reese Hamilton is giving his readers a true story about their life in the Santo Tomas ,Japanese camp. The experience they have that is him together with his friends who are Red,Polecat, Mark,Finchy, Jerry, Knockers,Pete and Johnny.

They are in this camp because of war that is between the Japanese (The japs) led by the Bataan and the Americans led by sir McArthur so that the Japanese gain there indipendence. Author William describes the torture and the execution that the Amercans are subjected to incase one breaks a single rule. This is upto the time the American soldiers came to rescue their people.

We see in the long run Harry taking the two boys Johnny and Polecat together with Southy back to their places of residence before the war. He tells us of the destruction of houses and many properties and the lives that are lost during that war.

The book has ended by bringing the picture of Bataan surrendering to McArthur and the Americans getting back their people who were taken to the Japanese camp inasmuch as we see the death of some Americans.

I will say this book had alot of positive characters that it instills ib the mind of the reader like love, care and generosity.

The negative side of it is the use of too much profane language like f*ck and bitch. It also had some aspect of sexual content when Johnny and Polecat found that book in the Oldman's court and they start to read it.

I therefore rate this book three stars out of four stars because of the presence of the profane words that it has. Therefore I recommend this book to young adults.
