"In life, things happen to us and around us, but the only thing that truly matters is how we respond to it."

The book Living forward after a loss is a true life story by Kathleen Ho of how she faced and overcame the grief of losing her life partner, how she rebuilt her life and lessons for other mourners and how they can also overcome grief. In her own words, "That is the reason why I decided to write this book. I want to confirm with you that there is always tomorrow. You will find blessedness again. I also want to share with you some useful and healthy ways to heal your inner wounds. I long to see peaceful and happy smiles on your faces."

I love the authenticity of the contents of the book. In this book, she clearly described the pain of losing a loved one. She wasn't just writing as an observer or what she researched, she wrote the book from the point of personal pain recounting how she lost her partner. Hence, it's easier for readers who have lost a loved one to relate to the things she wrote. It was easy for me to relate to it having had the experience of losing a loved one.

It is expected that a book like this should carry a tone of grief and reflect a mood of sadness on the reader but instead it sets a tone of hope and inspiration to the reader. She didn't just share her story about how her world collapsed after losing her husband but also how she was able to rebuild her life.

The book is filled with a lot of amazing contents. It's not just stories on how she overcame grief but viable contents and quotes at the beginning of each chapter. Lessons and life applicable examples, lessons from different authors and renowned writers. It was clear that the author has read a lot of books and has learnt a lot that she wrote. I love how the author made a summary of each with key points at the end of the chapter to help her readers retain and remember the lessons learnt in the chapter.

What I love most about the book is that the book is not just meant for mourners and people that are grieving. Anyone can read the book and have an understanding of what someone that has lost a loved one feels and goes through. There's an entire chapter on how to comfort someone that lost a loved one. What to say and what not to say to them in times of grief, details how to take care of them and what is expected from you as family or friend.

There's nothing that I disliked about the book.

Although I found a few errors in the book, it still did not affect my reading. It's a great book and I'd give it a four out of four stars. It's a book for everyone, especially those that have lost a loved one.
