My Living Will by John Trautwein is the story of a family trying to deal with the death of their eldest kid.

The plot starts with the death of John Trautwein's son Will. No parent would ever think of their life where they shall have to live on after their child dies. John and his wife go through the same pain. The pain of losing their child and the horror of continuing to live without him. The trauma experienced by them after the loss and how they deal with it is written. The decisions they make to overcome their grief. The author has penned down the flashbacks of John and his family's happy, funny and delightful life with Will. And how they start a foundation named Will To Live Foundation in the honor of their deceased son. A foundation that helps the kids who are facing hard times where they help the kids and guide them towards the change by being their life teammate. As the cause of Will's death being depression, John and his family put efforts into the foundation to make sure no other family suffer the agony like that of the Trautwein family.

It must have been quite difficult to put up his past bare in front of all the readers but I loved the compassion and love John held for Will. And his journey overcoming the grief and helping those in need. There were flashbacks of Will with his family that I loved most because every word of it reflected the raw and pure undying love of a father for his child.

There were few instances where I felt there was an unnecessary description of John's passion and skills as a baseball player.

In between the plot, there were some of the pictures of the Trautwein family which made me a bit sentimental. Pictures of their happy life and the loss they went through. I liked the style of the author's writing as it was perfect and I was completely immersed in the plot.

There were few religious mentions in the plot as well as a few grammatical errors too which aren't much noticed.

I give this book 3 out of 4 stars because frequent mentioning of John's skills and career as a baseball player made the plot monotonous and made me lose the track of the story and sounded more self-obsessive.

I recommend this book to the parents who are emotionally invested in their parenthood and those who have lost their kids. As there are Christian religious ideals mentioned, so those who are offended by it should not read the book.
