The novel Cat Boss by Tamya Tameem revolves around Devon, a police officer who is good at his job, and Elaine, a peculiar woman who believes to communicate with her cats. Although not well explained, the novel displays the cats to have a power that allows them to identify various criminals and communicate with their owner, Elaine.

The author demonstrates various writing skills throughout the novel, allowing the audience to envisage the story setting as well as the characters. For example, Devon’s mother is displayed as a hardworking woman who continues to slave herself in the kitchen despite her challenging health. I was partly impressed by the concept since its relatable in our daily life where mothers work hard to ensure their family is well fed. I was also pleased by the concept of a dedicated police officer who has sacrificed having his own family for the sake of the citizen’s well-being, which gives hope, although it’s a story, I believe such kinds of officers still exist in the current challenging world. Maybe the novel may even encourage the readers to be principled and dedicated like the detective. The book teaches important factors in life like the benefits of having animals in our lives and how to treat each other with kindness.

The author displays the detective to be more perfect to be true. Maybe adding some flaws to the character could make it more interesting and relatable. Additionally, instead of just mentioning Elaine Moore’s good traits, I feel perhaps the author could have displayed such traits by showing the audience the actions that Elaine had done to gain such a reputation. The plot is also relatively predictable and I feel more unpredictable actions could have made the story more interesting.

I would rate the book 3 out of 4 because I feel the story is relatively predictable and flat. Generally, the author has used great humor around the story. The perfect audience for the novel includes individuals who love cats since it would make them feel closer to their cats the same way Elaine Moore was with her's. It would also be a book of choice to individuals who believe in superstitions, or those interested in superstitious stories. I would also recommend Cat Boss to open-minded individuals who enjoy exploring various ideas even those that seem out of this world or impossible. The book is also appropriate for children since it lacks vulgarity.
