Review of The Devil Take Tomorrow

[Following is a volunteer review of "The Devil Take Tomorrow" by Gretchen Jeannette.]
The Devil Take Tomorrow by Gretchen Jeannette was a historical fiction with an interesting and engaging plot. The story is about an American lieutenant who enters British grounds as a spy to find out the spy they have assigned in the American army. In the process, he falls in love and discovers truth after truth and unveils a secret that led him to the very mission.
The story is fast moving and keeps the readers on the edge. I couldn’t take my eyes off for even a blink as the plot had me hooked from the beginning. As the story moved forward, it also built an excitement to expect more. It talks a lot about war and is filled with witty lines and smart ideas. The story transported me back to the olden days and let me live through the war years.
With war comes violence, and with war scenarios, the brutality in the book increases. The book has so many scenes of violence and also physical abuse which might become a trigger for the faint hearted. The ending is happy and just and that is what all mattered in the end.
I rate the book three out of four. There weren’t any errors that caught my attention. I loved the speed of the soldier and if I decide to join the army, the lieutenant will remain an inspiration to me.
I recommend the book to mature adults over the age of 21. This book might trigger you so be advised. But, it is one good tale which might make a great movie like the Avengers.
