[Following is a volunteer review of "Surviving the Business of Healthcare" by Barbara Galutia Regis PA-C.]
Surviving the Business of Healthcare by Barbara Galutia Regis, PA-C, is a book that will give you some insights into the healthcare system and how nowadays, healthcare is more and more of a business than a system designated to care for the patient. While we are healthy, we do not think about what may happen if we suddenly get sick. This book explains the importance of having health insurance and your wishes in regards to your health sorted out while you are still in good health. The author is showing us how healthcare used to be when she was a child and how it is now. It is amazing how much things change over the years and how the medical equipment and staff improved. To improve and aim for the best is excellent nevertheless, sometimes, in the process of perfecting something, we lose something else.
I liked that the author added events of her life as a child. It gives you some further insight into how medicine was practiced before, and it shows that the caregivers were much more involved than now. The fact that the author spoke about the cost difference between buying the pills in a local pharmacy or Amazon. After this part of the book, you understand that your bad health is the primary reason someone has full pockets. I admire the courage of Barbara Galutia Regis, PA-C, to change careers and fight her disease in such a brave way. The book is an easy read, and you do not have to work in a hospital to understand it. There are some medical terms here and there, but nothing too complicated.
I did not find anything I dislike in this book. My only comment will be that this book is about US healthcare, not Europe, however, there are similar concepts that are relatable to European countries, as well.
I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars because it is interesting and full of useful information. Besides providing real-life scenarios, the book was professionally edited, and it is easy and enjoyable to read.
It is an excellent book for all people, especially the ones outside the healthcare system, as it gives insights into how the healthcare system works and where your money goes. This book is an excellent source of information for beginners, and it shows that people can trust a caregiver, but be careful when choosing one, as ultimately, your health is on the line.
