Review of Korian

[Following is a volunteer review of "Korian" by Giorgio Garofalo.]
Endura, a world that exists in a galaxy far beyond Earth, has been through tribulations with the passing of ages, some of light and others of dark years. Beneath all this, fester’s the fulfillment of a prophecy that must come to pass. The slow seepage of dark intentions must be met and stopped by one destined for this purpose. What remains to be seen is if this chosen one has the will and support to do it…
If you love tales of new worlds conjured for you to explore, then Korian by Giorgio Garofalo is a sweet indulgence that will surely thrill you. The story follows the search and discovery of a prophesized being referred to as the ‘Azura’ meaning gatekeeper or guardian. It chronicles the lives of the fellowship of men and women who have been pre-destined to watch over or join the Azura in his journey until he fulfills the prophecy. Malevolent darkness in the name of Adam Hades has been manifesting itself through a specific tree, turning the inhabitants of Endura against each other with the eventual goal of destruction and the rise of a permanent dark era. The intertwining path of love, mystery and adventure that the protagonists take bring us to the convergence of them all at the helm of the greatest test of their honor.
Each significant character, of which are quite a number, is introduced in turn, giving the reader time to learn about each and emotionally embrace them as the book moves swiftly along. They become like the family you have always wanted and your interest is constantly piqued as the connection they hold to the Azura is revealed. The author does well to describe details of a whole new world for the reader to understand and so be able to put themselves in the protagonists’ shoes.
I rate this book at three out of four stars as some parts took a while to connect but certainly fell into place towards the end. The story leaps back and forth, providing glimpses through the ages spanning thousands of years. However, this juggling of past and present added to the suspense of the story and elevated the character foundations of the book.
Teen fans of fantastic fiction such as The Lord of the Rings trilogy and the Harry Potter series should dip their toes into this wondrous tale, which I’m convinced is the first of many adrenaline-filled rides.
