Review of It's Hard to Be a Vampire

[Following is a volunteer review of "It's Hard to Be a Vampire" by Viktoria Faust.]
It's Hard to be a Vampire by Viktoria Faust is a collection of 9 dark, twisted and disturbing fictional short stories. These stories follow a common theme of death, obsession and mystery. Each story is laced with one or more horror elements as well as suspense. Each story also boasts simple and easy to understand plotlines.
Viktoria Faust takes us on quite an interesting journey with this book. The first short story which also is the title of the book It's hard to be a Vampire is quite and opener and gives us an idea of what the other stories will be like. I absolutely loved the harsh and brutal encounters our different protagonists experience. I also am a fan of the dark yet funny sarcasm we read through in some of the stories. Viktoria Faust did incredibly well in bringing together completely different stories and connecting them in some way or the other. Although these stories are fictional I loved there ambiguity, one can interpret them in whatever way they see fit and it just proves how well done the some of the stories are. My personal favourites from the collection are It's hard to be a Vampire, Narcissus, Quietly they rise from the fog and The invisible ink
While this book was good and entertaining, it still had it's faults, from the slightly toxic and offensive narrative that it promotes to the unnecessary use of offensive words. The book also looses its captivating and intriguing magic towards the stories in the middle. However, the stories do pick up their intriguing streak again by the end.
I would rate this book a 3 out of 4 stars. The book can certainly hold a readers attention for an impressive amount of time and also make the reader invested in the characters within each individual story.
I would recommend this book to readers who are horror fans but also for those who are looking for a quick and easy read without a dense plot, this book can also act as an introduction to readers who are looking into getting into the fantasy/horror genre .
