Review of Heroes of Atlantis
[Following is a volunteer review of "Heroes of Atlantis" by Ryan Carriere.]
Heroes of Atlantis: Legend of The Dragon Runes by Ryan Carriere is a fantasy novel that is set in Atlantis within a kingdom. With a Greek mythology atmosphere, this book is written from two perspectives of the two main characters.
Roeg is an orphan teenage boy who has to struggle with his difference in his clan. He wants to fit with his clan so badly and tries to prove it by joining the Dragon Runes made by Krukk. Everyone around him keeps reminding him that he doesn’t belong to his clan by always mentioning his differences and his weakness. Meanwhile, somewhere in the Atlantis, there is a teenage girl named Sephonei. She is forced to join the Dragon Runes without preparation. She has to struggle in dangerous situations and find a way with Roeg to solve various problems in the runes.
What I like most about the book is the uniqueness of the characters’ names. Some odd words the characters are using also add to the creativeness of the book. For example, ‘mammothstomp’r’, ‘tusksnort’r’, and others. But these things show how vivid the personality of every character is. The readers can have an emotional connection with the characters since the author beautifully describes every feeling, such as when they feel fears or sad.
I don’t find anything I dislike about the book. I enjoy reading this book. It shows the author’s great imaginative thinking and successfully pours it into the story. The plot is also entertaining. The author also adds some graphics so the readers can imagine the creatures he created. The pages in this book are not too long, only about 218 pages, so it takes me a short time to read them all.
I feel some parts of the story are reflected too with our reality. For example, being different makes us hard to adapt and blend in with our society. Bullying is one common thing that has to be accepted when we are different than others. Sometimes being judged and alienated from the majority are the consequences for us. The majority doesn’t want to accept for who we are and always accentuate the look or the physical appearance.
In the end, I will give 4 out of 4 stars to this book. There is no grammatical error and neither typo. This book is perfectly well-edited. I think I will recommend this book to teenagers and young adults. This book is also fit for those who love adventures, fantasy, magical creatures, and beasts.
